The Chinese New Year is about 3 weeks away and for some, the preparations have started even before the New Year’s champagne glasses were kept away. One of my fondest memories from my childhood is shopping for new clothes for the upcoming festivities. I remember my Grandma dragging my brother and me along the busy Bunga Raya street in Melaka going from one shop to another buying cloth and shoes. In those days, I was very fortunate that my Grandma would sew me new pyjamas and best of all, I got to “design” what I wanted for the year. I even got to choose the cloth and lace to match. And my pyjamas must have the mandatory pockets to keep my ang pow and my secret stash of sweets.
These days, my Chinese New Year shopping experience have somewhat evolved and taken a whole new direction. I went online and found a few great bargains to usher the Year of the Tiger.
Gap Favourite Ribbed Tank: Modern Red ( USD7.99) and Belle Pink (USD12.00)
As the weather during the festivities is normally sweltering hot, I think that Gap’s Favorite ribbed tank (from USD7.99 onwards) would be suitable. Pair it with your fav skinny jeans or nice long, flowy skirt and you are all set for your annual visit-every-relative-in-the-state ritual. Plus you have over 10 gorgeous colours to choose from. My recommendations are the modern red (very auspicious!) and belle pink.
Stash your ang pows in this funky baby from Nine West. I just love the safety pin adding a touch of punk to this slouchy roomy bag. At USD 141.75, Nine West Vintage America Punky Medium Hobo ships for FREE with Super Saver Shipping at Amazon.com.
What is Chinese New Year without new shoes? As this year’s Valentine’s Day falls on the 1st. day of the Year of the Tiger, get a red hot pair of Kenneth Cole New York Women’s Hey Stud Pump. At USD 65.98 (60% off the retail price), your stud will surely be growling with appreciation when you strut in sexily in these pumps.
